Solid Waste Facilities

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection - Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management oversees the Permitting of Solid Waste Management Facilities within the State of Nevada.

NOTE: Clark and Washoe Counties administer permitting programs for solid waste management systems within their jurisdiction and are not listed but can be found by contacting them or through the GIS Database.

Below is the list of permitted and/or approved facilities administered by the Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management.

*   “Class I” Landfills (NAC 444.5705) are defined as disposal sites that:

  1. Are comprised of at least one municipal solid waste landfill unit including all contiguous land and structures, other appurtenances and improvements on the land used for the disposal of solid waste; and
  2. Are not a Class II or Class III site.

** "Class I and III" Landfills are a disposal site comprised of at least one municipal solid waste unit (Class I) and at least one industrial solid waste unit (Class III).

* “Class II” Landfills (NAC 444.571) are defined as disposal sites that:

  1. Which are comprised of at least one municipal solid waste landfill unit;
  2. Which accept less than 20 tons of solid waste per day on an annual average;
  3. Where there is no evidence of contamination of groundwater originating from the site;
  4. Which serves a community that has no other practicable alternatives for waste management; and
  5. Which is located in an area that annually receives no more than 25 inches of precipitation.
