Facilities

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management oversees the Permitting of Solid Waste Landfills and other waste management facilities within the state of Nevada.

  • NOTE - Clark and Washoe Counties administer permitting programs for landfills and waste management facilities within their jurisdiction and can be contacted at the following numbers:

*  -  Landfill Class Definitions

“Class I” means a disposal site that:

  1. Is comprised of at least one municipal solid waste landfill unit including all contiguous land and structures, other appurtenances and improvements on the land used for the disposal of solid waste; and
  2. Is not a Class II or Class III site.

“Class II” means a disposal site:

  1. Which is comprised of at least one municipal solid waste landfill unit;
  2. Which accepts less than 20 tons of solid waste per day on an annual average;
  3. Where there is no evidence of contamination of groundwater originating from the site;
  4. Which serves a community that has no other practicable alternatives for waste management; and
  5. Which is located in an area that annually receives no more than 25 inches of precipitation. The term includes all contiguous land and structures, other appurtenances and improvements on the land used for the disposal of solid waste.

“Class III” means a disposal site that accepts only industrial solid waste
