INTRODUCTION:

The Nevada BMP Toolbox is an online technical resource hub to assist farmers, ranchers, and other private property owners; land managers and natural resource professionals; construction and other industry professionals; and stormwater municipalities and other permittees, to prevent and control sediment, nutrients and other pollutants from being delivered to Nevada's surface waters.

In 2023, the Bureau of Water Quality Planning (BWQP) in collaboration with a Stakeholder Technical Advisory Group (STAG) updated the Nevada State Handbook of Best Management Practices (BMP Handbook). While the BMP Handbook features hundreds of best practices to prevent or reduce pollutants stemming from a variety of activities from being discharged to Nevada's surface waters, it is non-regulatory and is not intended to be a design manual.

With hundreds of local, state, regional, and federal manuals reviewed and considered, the 2023 update of the BMP Handbook was extensive. However, it was impractical for the update to be comprehensive. As such, the BMP Toolbox also includes an Online Resource section that will also be valuable for users to consider and consult in the selection of BMPs to protect and improve water quality. It is the intent that the BMP Toolbox serves as a living resource, with regular (i.e., five-year) review and update to ensure it does not become antiquated.
