Class I Landfill
Class I Landfills (NAC 444.570) are defined as disposal sites that:
- Are comprised of at least one municipal solid waste landfill unit including all contiguous land and structures, other appurtenances and improvements on the land used for the disposal of solid waste; and
- Are not a Class II or Class III site.
Design and operational requirements are defined under NAC 444.6769 to NAC 444.7025.

Class II Landfill
Class II Landfills (NAC 444.571) are defined as disposal sites that:
- Which are comprised of at least one municipal solid waste landfill unit;
- Which accept less than 20 tons of solid waste per day on an annual average;
- Which serves a community that has no other practicable alternatives for waste management; and
- Which is located in an area that annually receives no more than 25 inches of precipitation.
Design and operational requirements are defined under NAC 444.704 to NAC 444.728.

Class III Landfill
“Class III” Landfills are defined as disposal sites that only accept inert industrial solid waste per NAC 444.5715 and NAC 444.585. Design and operational requirements are defined under NAC 444.731 to NAC 444.747.

Class III Landfill — Waiver
A Class III Landfill Waiver (NAC 444.731) may be available for small-scale inert industrial waste disposal operations that meet all qualifications and standards for Subsections 2 and 3 of NAC 444.731. Both parts of the waiver application must be submitted together.

Transfer Stations
Transfer Stations (NAC 444.628) consolidate solid waste from collection vehicles for transport to a disposal facility. Design and operational requirements are defined under NAC 444.666 to NAC 444.66645.
Note: The term does not include public waste storage bin facilities (NAC 444.607)

Public Waste Bin Facility
Public Waste Storage Bins (NAC 444.607) are sites which provide portable waste contaners for the collection and transport of solid waste to a solid waste disposal site. Design and operational requirements are defined under NAC 444.66647.
Note: These are NOT the same as Transfer Stations (NAC 444.628)

Thermal Treatment Facility — Incinerator, Pyrolysis & Other
Solid waste Thermal Treatment Facilities (incinerators, pyrolysis units, and other thermal processes) are a new industry within Nevada. Design and operational requirements for an Incinerator are defined under NAC 444.672.

Material Recovery Facility (MRF)
Material Recovery Facilities (NAC 444.7474) sort and process recyclable materials from the solid waste stream. Design and operational requirements are defined under NAC 444.7474 to NAC 444.74779.

Compost Facility
Composting (NAC 444.572) is a controlled biological process which may be required to obtain a permit depending on the process and parameters of the operation. Design and operational requirements are defined under NAC 444.670.

Waste Tire Facility & Waste Tire Haulers
This section covers both Waste Tire Management Facilities (storage, processing, or disposal of waste tires) and Waste Tire Haulers (commercial transporters of waste tires). Requirements are defined under NAC Chapter 444A.
