Welcome to the Bureau of Water Quality Planning (BWQP)
BQWP’s mission is to safeguard and improve Nevada’s surface water quality through dedicated monitoring, assessment, and management programs to benefit Nevada’s natural environments and communities. BWQP branches roles and responsibilities are listed below:
Standards, Assessment, and Monitoring Branch
- Establishes, reviews, and revises water quality standards
- Assesses surface water quality throughout Nevada and produces the Nevada Water Quality Integrated Report which includes the 303(d) list of impaired waters the 305(b) list of all waters
- Performs ambient surface water monitoring throughout Nevada
- Develops Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs)
- Conducts the Triennial Review which is a 3 year review Nevada's Surface Water Quality Standards Program, including standards, assessments, monitoring, and future actions.
Nonpoint Source Branch
- Manages Nevada’s Nonpoint Source Program
- Oversees the EPA 319(h) Nonpoint Source Grant Program
- Issues Clean Water Act Section 401 Water Quality Certifications
- Oversees the Lake Tahoe TMDL Program
- Provide Best Management Practice (BMPs) Resources
Biological Assessment and Monitoring Branch
- Conducts bioassessment surveys across Nevada
- Manages the Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) Program

- Nevada Quality Assurance Program Plan (QAPP) - establishes specific quality requirements for collection and management of surface water quality data.

- EPA Pollutant Load Reduction Model a tool designed by US EPA to estimate pollutant reductions from various management practices
- How's My Waterway is a tool designed by US EPA to provide the public with information about the condition of local waters.
- Model My Watershed an innovative tool designed to help communities understand and manage their local water resources
- Nonpoint Source (NPS) Projects Data Explorer a US EPA tool for stakeholders to understand the work being done in their watersheds to restore and protect water quality
- EnviroAtlas a US EPA tool that provides data, research and analysis on the relationship between nature, people, health and the economy
- LT Info Lake Clarity Tracker is the central hub for Lake Tahoe TMDL program information
