Types of Assistance Available
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) provides different types of services and/or funding opportunities. The first is through a grant applied for by a public entity (i.e. city or county government). This grant allows NDEP to award services to assess contamination (Phase I), investigate present contamination (Phase II), and, if necessary, cleanup and remediate a site (Phase III). A simple application is all that is required to apply for this type of service. NDEP will assist in the cleanup and offer technical advice.
The second opportunity utilizes the Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF). This path allows public and private stakeholders (i.e. developers and site owners) to take out a low-interest loan to cleanup, revitalize and redevelop contaminated real property. Nearly any site cleanup or development project can qualify.
The State of Nevada receives federal funds to be used for:
- Assessment grants for public/non-profit projects
- Cleanup grants for public/non-profit projects
- Low-interest loans for private site cleanup
