Renewals

Renewal Requirements for both an OIT and Full Certification Operator:

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator Grades 1 and 2:
Requires seven (7) contact hours (0.7 CEU’s) within the renewal period for each certificate.
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

Water Treatment or Distribution Operator Grade 3 and 4
Requires fourteen (14) contact hours (1.4 CEU’s) within the renewal period for each certificate.
Proof of completed training must be submitted for review and approval.

An operator who holds multiple certifications of the same classification will only need to obtain continuing education requirements for their highest grade. For example, if you had a D2 Full and a D3 OIT, only fourteen (14) contact hours would be required for renewal.

An operator who holds certificates for both distribution and treatment must comply with the respective requirements for continuing education for each type of certificate.  For example, if you had a D3 Full and a T1 Full, expiring at the end of the year.  You would need fourteen (14) contact hours for the D3 Full and seven (7) separate contact hours for the T1 Full.

** The regular renewal period of any certificate is two (2) years. However, if you receive a certificate during any time in a given year, it will expire December 31st of the following year. The next renewal is then due two (2) years later. For example, if you receive a certificate on September 12, 2017, it will expire December 31, 2018. The next renewal will then be due December 31, 2020 and every two (2) years thereafter.

Contact hour requirements for renewals for certificates that expire on 12/31/2019 (and after) as follows:

  • Grade 1 – 2: 7 contact hours
  • Grade 3 – 4: 14 contact hours

Reinstatement of Expired Certificates (ANY RENEWAL RECEIVED AFTER DECEMBER 31st)

An OIT cannot be reinstated.
A full certificate can be reinstated within six (6) months after expiration date.
Proof of the required continuing education units is required.
To reinstate, the fee is $150.00.
