HWAAP-I08
BUILDING 70 PIT/LANDFILL

SITE DESCRIPTION
HWAAP-I08 is an open pit landfill located south of Bldg 70 and measures 45 x 110 x 15 feet. The period of use and activities at the site are not well BUILDING 70 PIT/LANDFILLdocumented, however, petroleum products were reportedly disposed of in the pit. Remedial Investigation in 1994 included 0.9 acres of ground penetrating radar on a 10 foot grid to assess the potential presence of buried objects, 3 surface and 5 near surface soil samples collected from within the pit. No buried objects were found during the ground penetrating radar survey. Up to 1,200 mg/kg of TPH-d, <50 mg/kg of hydrocarbons were detected in the soil samples. The affected soils are primarily within the open pit and to a depth of at least 35 feet bgs. Groundwater sampling down gradient of the site indicate that the affected soils have not affected the groundwater in the vicinity; therefore, no groundwater remediation is necessary.

PROPOSED PLAN
A Decision Document for SWMU I08 is expected to be completed in FY2011.
