HWAAP-I08 BUILDING 70 PIT/LANDFILL
SITE DESCRIPTION
HWAAP-I08 is an open pit landfill located south of Bldg 70 and measures 45 x 110 x 15 feet. The period of use and activities at the site are not well documented, however, petroleum products were reportedly disposed of in the pit. Remedial Investigation in 1994 included 0.9 acres of ground penetrating radar on a 10 foot grid to assess the potential presence of buried objects, 3 surface and 5 near surface soil samples collected from within the pit. No buried objects were found during the ground penetrating radar survey. Up to 1,200 mg/kg of TPH-d, <50 mg/kg of hydrocarbons were detected in the soil samples. The affected soils are primarily within the open pit and to a depth of at least 35 feet bgs. Groundwater sampling down gradient of the site indicate that the affected soils have not affected the groundwater in the vicinity; therefore, no groundwater remediation is necessary.
PROPOSED PLAN
A Decision Document for SWMU I08 is expected to be completed in FY2011.
