BUILDING 101-29/36 CATCHMENT PIT

SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is an inactive unlined catchment pit between Building 101-29 and Building 101-36, and 280 feet south of ramp to Building 101-56. The pit is 90 feet long by 35 feet wide and is up to 10 feet deep. A discharge pipe enters the catchment pit from the north side and appears to be connected with a settling tank north of the site. The pit reportedly operated from 1940 to the early 1970s and received large amounts of wastewater containing TNT and RDX. Explosive contaminated soil was treated by windrow composting. Contaminated soil has been removed and has been treated in the composting windrows to levels below cleanup goals.
