2003 Water Education Calendar and Poster Contest
for Nevada Students grades 3 - 5

Attention 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Teachers

In September 2002, the 2002-2003 Water Education Calendar was distributed to your school. The calendar features poster art created by elementary school students and contains information designed to educate and stimulate interest in environmental issues. Hopefully you have displayed the calendar in your classroom and have used it as a learning tool and basis for discussion of environmental topics and Nevada water issues.

It is now time to begin planning for the 2003-2004 calendar. The theme is "Wetlands: Helping to Balance Nature" and to get you and your class started, wetlands are featured in the 2002-2003 calendar during the months of February and March.

If you are interested in more detailed information about wetlands or are interested in having your students participate in the 2003-2004 calendar poster content, I can provide you with a packet containing wetlands related educational and resource materials to facilitate your students' understanding of the functions and importance of wetlands.

Simply fill out and return the Wetlands Educational and Resource Packet request form listed below. The official contest entry form and instructions for submitting posters are also listed below. Please note that I must receive student poster entries at the above address by April 1, 2003.

In order to better serve the needs of teachers and ensure the usefulness and applicability of the Calendar, I would appreciate very much if you would take the time to fill out the enclosed calendar survey and return it to me when you request the wetlands packet or no later than April 1, 2003. We welcome and need your feedback!
