Evaluating the Efficacy of Wetland Treatment

To evaluate the overall effectiveness of an artificial wetlands, and the subsequent impact on Lower Truckee River water quality.

First, Second and Third Creeks Watershed Improvement
Nevada - Tahoe Resource Conservation District
To improve the function of the watersheds through resource enhancement and communtiy outreach which will result in protection and restoration of the sensitive water quality of Lake Tahoe.

Implementation of the Steamboat Creek Restoration Plan
Washoe-Storey Conservation District

To implement the restoration activities along the steamboat, according to the restoration plan. This project is watershed-wide, based on a geomorphologic study, has education, public outreach components, involves GIS, potentially modelling.

Kingsbury Village Erosion Control Project
Kingsbury General Improvement District

To install of erosion control improvements such as retaining wall, rock rip-rap, asphalt/concrete swale, drop inlets and sediment basins to decrease run-off and sediment to tributaries to Lake Tahoe.

Landscaping Guide for Lake Tahoe Residents
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension

To produce the "Landscaping Guide" for Lake Tahoe residents, which teaches implementation of best management practices to homeowners.

Livestock Fencing to Establish a Control Pasture
Washoe - Storey Conservation District
To fence off 8-10 acres of land to establish a plot that will be used to demonstrate Whitetop erradication measures.

Lower Truckee River
Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe
To fence 2 miles of river corridor, develop off-channel livestock watering facilities, construct Oxbow wetlands at two sites, and establish the recruitmnent of Cottonwood seedlings. Implementation of all four components will contribute to improving water quality and fish and wildlife habitat.

Lower Truckee River Vegetation Enhancement
Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe
To construct fences, plant cottonwood poles, create conditions for the re-establishment of cottonwood seedlings, and to construct an interpretative trail for educational purposes.

Marla Bay Water Quality Improvemnt Project
Marla Bay General Improvement District (GID)

The Marla Bay GID projects consist of the installation of erosion check dams, asphalt/concrete swales and three concrete sediment collection vaults, to control sediment loading into Lake Tahoe.

Skyland Water Quality Improvement Project

The Skyland GID project consist of the installation of erosion check dams, asphalt/concrete swales and three concrete sediment collection vaults, to control sediment loading into Lake Tahoe.

Source Water Protection Program
South Truckee Meadows General Improvement District

To delineate wellhead and watershed protection areas, identify potential sources of contamination and develop a source water protection management plan.

Steamboat Creek NPS Eduction Program

To educate citizens about prevention of urban and rural surface and ground water pollution in their watershed, to include implementation of BMPs.

Steamboat Creek Restoration - Phase II
Washoe-Storey Conservation District

To finalize and implement a restoration plan; to work and coordinate with property owners implementation of BMPs to improve water quality.

Tahoe Urban Stormwater Education
UNR - Cooperative Extension - Incline Village

To increase awareness of the Lake Tahoe basin population about the contribution urban stormwater drainage makes to the Lake and to decrease the pollutant loading entering storm drains and roadside ditches.

Third Creek Watershed
Incline Village General Improvement District

To improve water quality in the Third Creek Watershed by restoring natural wetlands and stream channels. This will decrease pollution loading from sediment, nutrients, etc., into the creek and into Lake Tahoe.

Truckee Meadows In-stream Flow Bank
Desert Research Institute

To study the viability of establishing a bank with donated water rights to provide for minimum in-stream flows.

Truckee Meadows Suburban Agricultural NPS Education Program
UNR Cooperative Extension - Incline Village

To reduce NPS pollution in the Steamboat Creek Watershed by educating owners of small ranchettes about Best Management Practices.

Truckee Meadows Watershed Education

To increase public awareness of nonpoint source pollution and to encourage the implementation of BMPs in the Steamboat Creek Watershed.

To organize and execute the 1995 Truckee River Conference.

Truckee River Restoration Plan at the Tracy Power Plant
Washoe - Storey Conservation District

To control Tall Whitetop and promote re-establishment of native species for the restoration of the riparian habitat and water quality.

Washoe Valley NPS Education
UNR - Cooperative Extension

To implement a public education program about NPS surface and ground water pollution, with an emphasis on the implementation of BMPs.

Washoe Valley Nonpoint Source Education and Best Management Practices (BMPs) Validation Program
UNR Cooperative Extension

This is an expansion of the existing Small Ranch Water Quality Program, currently in Pleasant Valley and east Washoe Lake. The added component is an experiment to verify the effectiveness of animal density management (as a BMP) for the prevention of water pollution and to increase forage productivity.

Wasteload Assessment for the Verdi Area

To install monitoring wells, collect samples and monitor water levels on these wells to characterize ground water flow and volume of flow; to estimate the waste loads for the area.

Watershed Management: Voluntary Implementation of BMPs
Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
