he purposes of the Federal Facility Agreement and Consent Order (FFACO) is to identify sites of potential historic contamination and implement corrective actions based on public health and environmental considerations.

Among other requirements, the agreement outlines a process to insure that the Department of Energy (DOE) and/or the Department of Defense (DoD), under the regulatory authority and oversight of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP), thoroughly investigate and take corrective actions concerning the releases of hazardous pollutants at certain federal facilities. The FFACO specifically covers the following federal facilities:

Nevada Test Site (NTS)
Tonopah Test Range (TTR)
Nellis Air Force Range (NAFR)
The Central Nevada Test Area (CNTA), and
The Project Shoal Area.
