1987 Petroleum contamination found in terminal soils and groundwater
1987 NDEP issues order to the terminal to investigate and clean up contamination
1988 Terminal soil and groundwater investigations conducted
1989 Terminal free product recovery system installed; petroleum contamination found in railyard soils and groundwater, chlorinated solvents detected in groundwater
1989/90 NDEP issues orders to the nine other parties who owned or leased property at the terminal to investigate and clean up contamination
1991 Railyard free product recovery system installed; EPA issues Administrative Order
1991 Reluctance on the part of the companies to conduct an off-site investigation forces NDEP to file civil action against all 10 companies
1991 Congressional hearings were held and EPA issues Administrative Order to all 10 companies
1992 Removal Action Plan including a site assessment and 11 removal actions
1995 NDEP settles legal action
1995 Installation of site wide groundwater extraction and soil vapor extraction system
1997 Regional Flooding and Formation of the Sparks Marina Park Lake
1998 Denitrification system installed; phytoremediation demonstration area built
1999 Hot Spot soil vapor extraction, air sparging, and high pressure oxidation of MTBE
2000 EPA lifts Administrative Order (pending)
