Mercury

Elemental mercury is a hazardous metal that can cause serious health problems. Elemental mercury vapors can affect many different areas of the brain, the nervous system, and their associated functions. Children and fetuses are most vulnerable to the serious health effects of mercury.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) jointly issued an alert to the general public warning of the health dangers associated with mercury exposure.

US EPA Region IX released several guidance documents regarding mercury spills:
    What You Need To Know About Mercury;
    General Information about mercury.
In addition, the US EPA also released a Draft Mercury Response Guide and a Mercury Guidebook.

On page 3 of the Mercury Response Guide, you can find the Mercury Vapor Action Levels, which are recommended cleanup and health and safety action levels.
