We strive to answer the question
How Clean is Clean for What Use!

Summary

This site was the former location of a Union Pacific Rail yard in Las Vegas. Between 1992 and 1998, Union Pacific had been ordered to remove petroleum contaminated soil. This was required as significant contamination was found during a site characterization study in 1987.

In 2000 NDEP authorized the closure of wells on site due to free floating petroleum contamination. This site is now targeted for re-development activities, and further assessment and de-contamination is required. The re-development plan includes retail space, office space, residential space, a park, a hotel, and a theater.

Both petroleum and lead containing soil has been removed from the site, and the soil aspect of remediation was closed in 1999. The remediation was completed to an extent that would allow the construction of mixed use residential. The groundwater aspect of remediation remains open, but is expected to close soon. This site represents the first risk based corrective action in Nevada.
