Nevada's Brownfields program is designed to create partnerships that improve the quality of Nevada's communities through maximizing opportunities for creative use.

We strive to answer the question:
How Clean is Clean for What Use!

Summary

This site is located near Highway 395 on East Second Street, and has been used for a number of years as a multi-use industrial area. Past uses have been machine shops, a commercial printing shop, auto repair shops, a sheet metal fabrication company, and other similar companies. An explosion in April 1999 in an auto-painting facility led to a recorded release of diesel, propane, paint and paint thinner.

A Site development proposal required that an environmental survey be completed. An initial Brownfields grant was utilized to provide this survey. The survey found a large amount of lead and hydrocarbon contaminated soil, along with a quantity of asbestos. In order to remove these hazards, additional funding was required.

The Reno Sparks Indian Colony applied for a loan from Brownfields Clean-Up Revolving Loan Fund. The colony was approved for a $850,000 loan to facilitate cleanup and re-development activities. The environmental cleanup has been completed as evidenced by "no further action" letters from Washoe County Health Department, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and is ready for redevelopment.
