Nevada's Brownfields program is designed to create partnerships that improve the quality of Nevada's communities through maximizing opportunities for creative use.

We strive to answer the question:
How Clean is Clean for What Use!

Summary

This site serves as a combined school for the town of Owyhee and the Duck Valley Indian Reservation. An environmental safety analysis was completed on the site in June of 2005, and a diesel heating oil contamination was found on the ground surface. The extent of contamination was then analyzed, and plans were made for removing the contaminated soil.

In August of 2006 the contaminated soil was removed and sent to a landfill and stockpiled for characterization and disposal. Confirmation samples were collected and the site was filled with new soil, and then the site of contamination and the area surrounding it was capped with asphalt to eliminate further risk of exposure. This project was closed in December of 2006.
