We strive to answer the question:
How Clean is Clean for What Use!

Summary

Storey County submitted a Hazardous Site Assessment application for this site in November 2004. This site is host to an abandoned mine used until its closure due to bankruptcy in 1999. In an effort to make the site marketable for sale and re-development, Storey County sought assistance in assessment and cleanup of any hazardous materials on the site.

An in depth analysis was completed regarding several hazards including leftover drums and containers containing solids and liquids, cyanide treated material not bound by a liner, hydrocarbon contaminated soil on an incomplete liner, and a pond containing corrosive materials. Once the extent of each hazard was determined, steps were taken to contain and remove the contaminants making the site safer and more desirable for industrial development. A "Final Permanent Closure Plan" was drafted to inform potential buyers of the environmental liabilities that exist on the stie. The report includes a cost estimate for site cleanup and closure. The sale and development of this site should not only provide jobs to nearby citizens, but also generate additional revenue for Storey County.
