Bureau of Water Pollution Control 09/14/2001 The Administrator has received a complete renewal application for water pollution control discharge permit NEV95017 from Kal Kan Foods, Inc., 500 Waltham Way, McCarran, Nevada 89434. The applicant is a manufacturer of dry pet food. The applicant has applied for a permit to discharge disinfected, secondary treated wastewater to the groundwater of the State. The applicant proposes to continue to treat up to 5,000 gallons per day (gpd) sanitary waste with up to 20,000 gpd industrial wastewater in a single tank Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) treatment plant. The SBR will produce an effluent with a 5-day biochemical oxygen demand of less than 30 mg/L, a total nitrogen concentration of less than 10 mg/L, and a total suspended solids concentration of less than 30 mg/L. After disinfection, the effluent will have a fecal coliform concentration of less than 23 colony forming units per 100 milliliters. The plant has three points of discharge to the HDPE-lined effluent holding pond, to landscape irrigation, and to the HDPE-lined effluent evaporation pond. Groundwater monitoring wells will be monitored to ensure that there is no degradation of groundwater. Bureau of Mining Regulation & Reclamation 09/12/2001 The Administrator of the Division of Environmental Protection gives notice that an application for the renewal of Water Pollution Control Permit for the Silver Peak Lithium Facility, a beneficiation facility, has been properly filed with the Division of Environmental Protection in Carson City. The applicant for Permit NEV70005 is: Chemetall Foote Corporation P.O. Box 98, Hwy. 265 Silver Peak, NV 89047 The facility, known as the Silver Peak Lithium Facility, is located in Sections 26-28 of Township 1 South, Range 40 East; Sections 1, 12, 13, 21-25 of Township 2 South, Range 39 East; and, Sections 1-11, 15-20, 29-32 of Township 2 South, Range 40 East in Esmeralda County, Nevada. The project primarily consists of numerous deep wells, solar evaporation ponds, liming facilities, and process plant for the production of lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide monohydrate and anhydrous lithium hydroxide. Facilities are required to be designed, constructed, operated and closed without any discharge or release in excess of those standards established in regulation except for meteorological events which exceed the design storm event. The groundwater beneath the playa is the source of lithium and it contains a very high total dissolved solids concentration. However, the groundwater quality from the production well and the town of Silver Peak well meet drinking water standards. Georgia Route 3 P.O. Box 380 Ochlocknee, Georgia 31773 Bureau of Water Pollution Control 07/26/2001 The Administrator has received a complete application to renew National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit NV0021121 for the Flamingo Hilton Hotel and Casino, P.O. Box 1291, Reno, Nevada 89503. The applicant discharges water from a sump in the basement garage of the Flamingo Hilton Hotel and Casino, 225 North Sierra Street, at a maximum rate of 44,000 gallons per day (gpd) and a maximum thirty-day average of 35,000 gpd. This discharge consists of groundwater, that is pumped to the City of Reno Sierra Street stormdrain that flows to the Truckee River. Monitoring will be required to ensure that the water in the Truckee River is not degraded by this discharge. The proposed permit will cover a five (5) year period. Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation 07/19/2001 Notice of Proposed Action by the State of Nevada The Administrator of the Division of Environmental Protection gives notice that an application for a renewal of a Water Pollution Control Permit for a mining facility, the New Pass Mine, has been properly filed with the Division of Environmental Protection in Carson City. Austin, Nevada 89310 Bureau of Water Pollution Control 07/10/2001 The Administrator has received a complete application for a water pollution control discharge permit No. NEV2001504 from U.S. Army, Hawthorne Army Depot, 1 South Maine Street, Building 5, Hawthorne, Nevada 89415-9662. The applicant is operating a bioremediation facility at the Hawthorne Army Depot for microbial treatment of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soils under Temporary Permit No. TNEV2001328. The permittee has applied for a permanent discharge permit with a zero discharge standard of performance for this treatment facility. The treatment process utilizes land farming techniques combined with soil microbes and moisture to treat the subject soils on a bermed concrete pad. The permit is for a five (5) year period. Bureau of Water Pollution Control 07/10/2001 The Administrator has received a complete application to renew National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit NV0021091 from COLORITE WATERWORKS, 909 EAST GLENDALE AVENUE, SPARKS, NEVADA 89431. Colorite WaterWorks operates a garden hose manufacturing facility at 909 East Glendale Avenue in Sparks, Washoe County, Nevada. The proposed permit is for discharge of cooling water to the City of Sparks storm drain system, which discharges to the People’s Ditch and ultimately to the Truckee River. The proposed permit term is for a five (5) year period.
