The monitoring branch is responsible
for the State's water quality monitoring program, a program which involves water quality surveys and the routine monitoring of over 100 sites. This branch maintains and updates water quality data for the national water quality data base (STORET) and is responsible for preparation of Nevada's Water Quality Assessment Report which is required under Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act (CWA).
Certifications under Section 401 of the CWA are issued by the monitoring branch to ensure federally permitted activities do not cause water quality impairment. Laboratories which perform water quality analyses pursuant to the CWA must also be certified by the monitoring branch. Additionally, this branch reviews environmental impact statements, environmental assessment documents, clearinghouse documents and permits for the Army Corps of Engineers, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Nevada Division of State Lands.
