Site map of the Great Basin. The map shows the locations of the Nevada Test Site (NTS), The Tonopah Test Range (TTR) and the Nellis Air Force Range (NAFR) with in the Great Basin ecoregion.
U.S. Department of Energy site map of the Nevada Test Site (NTS): The NTS was used as a testing area for nuclear weapons; testing began in the early 1950's and was not concluded until September 1992. There were more than 900 nuclear tests conducted at the site. NTS is located about 65 miles north west of Las Vegas, Nevada.
U.S. Department of Energy site map of the Central Nevada Test Site (CNTA): The CNTA is located in the north-central part of Hot Creek Valley in south-central Nevada. The site was obtained by the Atomic Energy Commission for the purposed of developing potential alternative sites for underground nuclear testing. Although several large emplacement holes were drilled at the site, Project Faultless was the only nuclear devise detonated. Faultless was exploded on January 19, 1968 at a depth of 3,200 feet. The shot produced a yield of approximately 1 megaton.
U.S. Department of Energy site map of the Shoal site. Project Shoal was an underground nuclear test conducted jointly by the DoD and the Atomic Energy Commission. Its purposed was to study the effects of different geological media on seismic waves. The site is located in Churchill County near Fallon Nevada. The device was denoted On October 26, 1963 at a depth of 1,205 beneath the ground. The shot produced a rubblfilled chimney 170ft in diameter and 460ft high.
DOE defense Low-Level Waste (LLW) Disposal Sites: National map showing U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Low-Level Waste generator and disposal sites. The map depicts the current situation as of 6/98.
National map showing results of a National Cancer Institute (NCI) study. The study address radioactive fallout from nuclear testing. It assess Americans' exposures to radioactive iodine-131 fallout from atmospheric nuclear bomb tests carried out at the Nevada Test Site in the 1950s and 1960s. A summary of the report is available on NCI's What New Page for 1997. The link is located at the bottom of the the Page).
