Summary
The site was originally developed in 1950 into the L & L Motel, and in 1990 was renamed the Silver Strike Motel. The Silver Strike Motel was closed in 1996 and fell into disrepair. The building has posed several hazards to nearby residents and businesses.
During a Phase I Environmental Safety Analysis several hazards were identified. These hazards included asbestos containing building materials, and diesel oil contamination of some on-site soil.
The Funding for this project was used to complete an in-depth asbestos survey to determine the extent of removal necessary followed by removal and disposal according to health and safety regulations. The other hazards removed included mercury containing thermostats, as well as fluorescent light ballasts.
After hazardous materials were removed, the building was demolished in August 2005 to make way for development according to the town and county revitalization plan. The project was closed in July 2005.
