Nevada's Brownfield program is designed to create partnerships that improve the quality of Nevada's communities through maximizing opportunities for creative use.

We strive to answer the question
How Clean is Clean for What Use!

Summary

The Freighthouse was constructed in 1931 as a Southern Pacific Railroad freight station. The city of Reno applied for phase I services to help promote redevelopment of the site. Phase I environmental assessment completed for this site noted that the Freighthouse was found to have asbestos shingles on the exterior. Asbestos would have to be abated according to environmental standards before this site can be demolished or re-developed.

Another important note is that this site overlies groundwater that is known to have perchloroethylene (PCE) contamination; site history does not indicate it as a source of groundwater contamination. This site is also a part of the Truckee Meadows Remediation District, which is actively remediating the groundwater in downtown Reno
